If you bought a recharge kit it should have directions. All you need to do is hook up to the low side i believe. I could be 100% wrong and it might be the hi side. I've never had a/c, lol.
Anyone else?

Those kits are usually JUNK. It should have came with a line/valve assembly that connects to the can. Hook it to the can, with the valve closed. Hook the other end of the line to the low pressure port on the A/C lines. Don't worry, they're too different sizes, so you can't fuck up. Start the car and turn the A/C on max, hi fan, as cold as it will go. Open the valve and it SHOULD suck the r134a into the system. If your compressors not running, you may have to jump the wires on your low pressure safety swtich. Its located on one of the a/c lines, usually 2 wires.
The kits usually don't have enough pressure in the cans to transfer much of the r134a into the system. When we service a car, we pull a strong vacuum on the system before we charge it. Over 30in/Hg.

if the system is supposedly fully charged, what would make a compressor not run unless it has a jump wire hooked to it?

Could be a bad coil on the compressor clutch, or a bad low pressure safety switch. Pull the leads off the compressor and see if you are getting power, if so... its a bad clutch. If you aren't getting power, check the fuses, relays, and switches.
