how rich can I go without risking fouled plugs? Right now I am around 12:1 a/f ratio with 5.5psi, when I up the boost to 10 or so psi I will be unable to get it tuned for about a week so I was going to set my fuel tuner to aroud 0 to +5 across the board (currently at -10 to -23 across the board. That would have me at around 10:1 a/f ratio. I am afraid to foul the plugs since that means taking the entire supercharger off to replace them. Of course that is better than a blown motor, lol. Would 10:1 be okay to run for a week or so, I will put around 700 miles on the car before it is tuned on the dyno.
The plugs are new irridium plugs with about 8-10k at most on them.

You'll be pretty rich, though most modified Lightnings run 11.5 AF for a safe tune with good power. Can you just add +2 or +3?

You'll know if it is too rich ;).
BTW, my P5 is in the mid 10s stock at WOT. It is a pig...

Yeah I was thinking of taking it to -5 on the top end, that should get me around 11:1 or so. It is so weird on these cars, my friend has the exact same mods as I do and he had to add about 20% fuel to get his to 12:1 and I had to subtract over 20% fuel to get to 12:1. I guess his fuel pump was not working properly or something.

The SDS people gave me a tune for my Mustang that I have had to take around 30% out of so far and it is still rich in places. I think they were playing it safe. They also misunderstood how big my injectors are I think.

Low 10's fouled mine after several thousand miles. I use cheap NGK copper plugs that are around 2 bucks each so no big deal.
I don't think you'll have any problems tho.. that's a crock that you have to take off the s/c just to change the plugs.

i would never guess using a fmu for a set afr..
get a wideband.
mrphotoman- 05-30-2006
Yeah I need to get a wideband, they are so damn expensive though.
Yeah that mafterburner can get the a/f ratio perfectly flat, it is super easy to tune with it.
justchil- 05-30-2006
^^ Agreed.
Check out the: Zeitronix ZT2 Wideband
One of the best bang for the bucks out there.. if you ever want one :)
Edit: It's around $275 and have tons of sweet stuff you can add-on etc...
TORQUERULES- 05-30-2006
^^^^ I like the Zetronix too. That was what I was going to get before I got the deal on the PLX.
justchil- 05-30-2006
Yeah I have the PLX-M500 and I'm not super happy with it.. the software sucks IMHO.
TORQUERULES- 05-30-2006
I just have the M-300. With my datalogging on the SDS that is all I need. If I had to do it over, I would just get the LC-1 from Innovate and be done with it. Who needs a display when your stand-alone does it for you?

^^ Agreed.

Yeah I have seen it, that is the one I hope to get.

I am thinking about doing what meanassneon did and find me a good buy on a wideband with a display and rig it up to power up off a cigarette lighter port. That way I can use if for many different vehicles as long as they have a spare O2 bung in place.

Yeah that would be the best way to go, it would keep you from buying one for every car you own.
