Need Ford Mustang 8.8 4.10 Gear
I am looking for a 4.10 gear for my 99 Cobra. This will be my daily driver for few months. So, I really don't want to go any lower. I am currently running a 3.27 or 3.08, not sure? Any help indentifing what I have. I don't remember how to do the tire/drive shaft ratio test to see what gear I have. Any way.... I am willing to do some trades or even sell my current gear after I get a 4.10. Let me know what you got........ :) Thanks, Jay

You have a 3.27 gear right now. 4.10 is a good choice for all around use. I don't know anyone who has a set, but check out Ebay.

I have looked on ebay. They have a couple of decent buys, but I am a little scared to buy any performance parts there. Have you had any luck with ebay perfromance parts? Jay

Yea, so long as you know what you are looking for and they have a good rep, then you are okay 99% of the time.

buy from a seller who has a store...normally better. id like to go 4.10 as well...my 3.73 arent enough.

I know a guy that has some 4.30's if you might be interested.

TORQUERULES- 05-03-2007

^^^^ First gear might be a little short, but those are really what you need for that N/A 4V.

I would go 4.30, but a lot of people are afraid of low gears. I don't kno why with modern overdrive transmissions. Sure transmission gearing will play a big role in you decision, but 4.30s are doable on that car and will make it honk. I have a friend with a '95 GT vert who put heads, cam, intake, exhaust, etc. on it but could not be convinced to go lower than 3.55 even though it was not a daily driver that had to take mileage into consideration. Well it felt like a turd until it got going IMHO and then it would really come alive. I needed gears to overcome all of that weight. With F/I it might be different because the torque will take care of that (especially with a positive displacement blower), but gearing a car properly is a big deal.

I am just affraid if I have to drive this car more often than I want, will the lower gear kill me on highway driving. Barn has a 4.30 gear in his 98 z, but it's a 6 speed. He is still turning about 2 grand at about 70mph. With the 5 speed that I have, what am i looking at for interstate driving? I don't want to run 3 grand at 70mph? :?

I still got 23mpg highway in my 2003 Mach 1 with a 4.56 gear.
