Stacked IC and radiator?
Ok guys, i keep seeing these pics online of people with their intercooler and radiator stacked right together....seems like pretty much the stupidest idea ever to me...what am I missing here? would you want a 180* radiator touching your intercooler, in fact welded to it on the same brackets? Seems like it kinda defeats the purpose if an intercooler to me... aluminum is one of the best conductors of heat, meaning that if that radiator is hot, the intercooler is gonna be hot too.... for reference, heres a pic of the type of setup im talking about.... or a video of a car with this type setup.... http://videos.rotarytuner.com/category/3+Rotor/2/9177f0dd-d951-4585-9fc6-44fbccedd4e3.htm pat

stupid........

Done because of space constraints. Sam's Merkur Rad and IC had about a 1-2" gap, but his air temps never got above 95 degrees. He had a very good IC.

the one on the rx7 shouldnt have anything to do with space, theres all kinds of space in the front of a 7.... and yeah i could see a 2" gap as not being that big of a deal, but most of the ones ive been seeing are pretty much touching...

Sounds like a good argument to me. Doesn't make sense to have them touching! Mine will be about 2-3" in front of my radiator.

I thought that setup looked familiar. It is an RS Cosworth IC/Radiator combo used on the Sierra RS Cosworth and the Escort RS Cosworth. It was done for space and works quite well. These were over 500hp cars in race format and quite a few are 700+ with that setup. Doesn't look like much, but it works. Sam wanted to get one so he wouldn't have to cut his front-end, but they are Uber expensive. Here is one for sale: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ford-RS500-COSWORTH-RADIATOR-AND-INTERCOOLER-COMBO_W0QQitemZ250084923095QQihZ015QQcategoryZ72205QQcmdZViewItem

Remember, once moving them touching will not be much of a problem Mainly heat soak from traffic or sitting would be a problem. I don't like it either, but sometimes that is what you have to have.

Screw stacking V-mount FTW!

stock in my saab is pretty much the same maybe 1/2 inch of gap. poor design IMO but its made to save space ...if you have to shoehorn a turbo engine in and this is all the room you have its much better than nothing. i guess it could be worse they could have put it behind the radiator
