Ok I just got done changing my serpentine belt on the Lightning for the TENTH time!!!!!! I have replaced the tensioner and shit but it keeps running the belt to the outside and shredding them. Any ideas for the cause of this mess???? :x

One of the idlers could have a bad bearing. Could be dragging. Any noise? Also, is it killing them on the outside edges or just the outside flat surface? If it is the edges, then maybe your aftermarket pulley has burrs on the edges, or there could be a misalignment problem. I have a spare stock idler if you find you need it. I'll give it to you for cheap. What kind of belt? I have a gatorback now which came with the pulley, but it is not wearing as well as the original Motorcraft.

Bent lip on a pulley or misalignment somewhere.

jive is using his trickery...him and Tim are out to get you...

Well the idler pulley on the passenger side the belt is running right in the center of it. The one on the driver side right above the powersteering pump is running to the outside of it. Now I dunno if the idler pulley is bad or the pulley/shaft on the powersteering is pushing the belt to the outside. I have to idlers ordered and I will see if that cures the problem.

Do you have a different pulley on s/c??? (may not be on all the way) might be a stupid Q.

rocketman442- 06-11-2007

Check for a accessory or idler out of alignment or dragging. I had a olds that would roll the belt over and the alernator was bad.

Did you get the tensioner mounted back properly, spacers ect.? Did you check to see if maybe it's tilted a little. Where I work we use 3in wide belts and aluminum pulleys. The pulleys are machined, with a slight crown to keep the belts tracking properly, so you might check all of your pulleys. Also does the ribs in the serpentine match up with the pulleys, to small of ribs will allow it to set on top and walk a little.
